Mellon Financial Corp. of the United States has over $730 billion in assets and is the seventh largest financial services company in the country. Speculation that the company is planning a merger or acquisition has increased the share price by 20 percent to $31.95 on the New York Stock Exchange as of yesterday close.

Utilities might face ugly reality

Utility stocks, shares in water, gas and electricity utilities, have gained 15 percent this year and 45 percent over the past two years in the United States. However, utility stocks have seen slower growth recently amidst concerns of higher United States inflation and interest rates.

Beijing lender draws solid demand for IPO

Article Abstract:

China Construction Bank Corp. of China is launching an initial public offering in the amount of $7.7 billion. The bank is one of the first of China's major lending institutions to list overseas. The share offering in Hong Kong is expected to start at $1.80 to $2.25 Hong Kong Dollars.
