Article Abstract:

The value of management buyouts and buy-ins rose in the north west of England in 1994, though the number of transactions rose to only 60 for 1994 compared with 50 transactions in 1993. Banks have become increasingly involved in buyouts, and there is also a strong venture capital market. Montagu Private Equity plans to open in Manchester, which will strengthen the local venture capital market. The economic climate for buyouts is favorable due to low inflation and relatively low rates of interest, and Manchester's financial service companies look set to benefit.

Article Abstract:

Management buyouts and buy-ins underwent high levels of activity in north west England in 1994, and this was continued in early 1995. Buyouts included Holt Lloyd from Morgan Crucible, and others involving Dartington Crystal, BTR and Presspart Manufacturing. There are some six large venture capital comoanies located in Manchester with increasing amounts of funds being committed. A number of large deals are being set up and carried out in the north west, which is encouraging for the region.
