Exploiting timely demand information to reduce inventories

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to determine the impact of timely demand information (TDI) on the behavior of two independently-owned firms in a distribution chain. Inventory decisions of a supplier receiving daily data on customer sales and TDI values for offset ordering periods for the two locations were analyzed. The TDI value was found to be directly proportional to supplier service level, supplier holding costs, demand variability and offset time and inversely proportional to order cycle length.

A predictive model for the throughput of simple assembly systems

Article Abstract:

A predictive model for the throughput of unbalanced three-station assembly systems is proposed. The approximation is robust, simple and does not require distribution. It can be a valuable tool for line design or can be used for analyzing tradeoff issues. The average accuracy of the method has proven to be excellent, with errors averaging only about 2%. Maximum errors have been recorded at 7%-8%.

Performance characteristics of stochastic integrated production-distribution systems

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to examine the process of materials management as part of an integrated supply chain operation. The study considers a model which describes an integrated production-distribution system and focuses on an evaluation of its performance characteristics. Results show that such a model may be used to describe the interest tradeoff inherent in conflicts of integrated systems.
