FIPB CLEARS Rs200-CRORE PLANS, LINTAS CAN UP STAKE

Article Abstract:

The Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) has cleared fresh investment proposals worth Rs200 crore. These include Daewoo Power's proposal of sharing 50 percent equity in its Korba project with Asea Brown Boveri. FIPB has also cleared nine proposals worth Rs20 crore in the information technology sector. It has approved Lintas' request to increase equity from 24 percent to 49 percent. This is expected to give an added impetus to the company which is presently affected by recession.(uh)

JEGURUPADU POWER PROJECT

Article Abstract:

GVK Industries (GVK) and CMS Generation Inc of the US have set up a 235 mw power project at Jegurupadu in East Godavari district. The cost of the project was Rs816 crore. The company received approval from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) in March 1996 to increase the capacity of the power plant at Jegurupadu to 470 mw. The second phase of the project is likely to be completed by December, 1999. (gs)

DABHOL POWER PROJECT

Article Abstract:

Enron Power Development Corporation of the US has tied up with General Electric and Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) to form a joint venture company, Dabhol Power Co (DPC). The new company is in the process of completing the first phase of the Dabhol Power Project which has a capacity of 740 mw. DPC plans to widen the capacity of the project to 1,624 mw during the second phase. (gs)
