FRANCE: FCD FAVOURS EXTENDING BSE TESTS

Article Abstract:

The Federation of Commerce and Distribution Companies (FCD) recommends extending bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) screening test to all cattle more than 24 months old. According to Jerome Bedier, president of the FCD, this measure is absolutely necessary in order to restore consumer trust. Mr Bedier also pointed out that retailer are willing to support a systematic screening program at local and national levels.

FRANCE: AUCHAN ANNECY GETS ISO 14001

Article Abstract:

The Auchan hypermarket at Annecy has obtained the environmental protection ISO 14001 certification from AFAQ. This certification concerns storage of food and non-food products, automobile service (store and maintenance) as well as environmental protection. The Auchan store in Annecy has set up a selective sorting system for the 2,000 tonnes of waste which it generates every year.
