FRANCE: KIDS LIKE BOOBALOO

Article Abstract:

Boobaloo, a small car for children which is installed in the front of shopping carts, is a big hit in France. A total of 1,000 of these Boobaloo shopping carts are already available in 130 shopping centres and stores in France, and an additional 2000 are to go to 40 new establishments by the end of 2000. The Boobaloo is a way to increase customer loyalty, and they enable the retailer to make an interesting additional income, since clients rent them for FFr 10 per hour, while they retailer pays only FFr 100 per month in rent to the Boobaloo company.

FRANCE: COOP ALSACE'S RESULTS

Article Abstract:

Coop Alsace is the leading retailer in Alsace, with a 15% share of the food market. It made EUR 2.97mn in turnover in 2000, compared with EUR 1.98mn in 1999. The group has already posted a 1.9% for the first quarter of 2001 alone. After ten years of recovery, Coop Alsace is beginning to reap its rewards. It now operates six Rond Point hypermarkets, 23 Maxi supermarkets, 87 Coop supermarkets and superettes, 98 Point Coop stores, and 9 Le Mutant discount stores. Coop Alsace is placing a priority on its Maxi stores and proximity. It has invested nearly FFr 15mn in order to cut 15% to 20% off of half of the prices of the products in its local shop network. As of October 2001, there will be no more than a FFr 5 difference in prices between its hypermarkets and local shops.
