Article Abstract:

European monetary union will affect pricing which can vary a great deal between members of the European Union (EU). Price variations may persist, but are likely to be reduced. Price differentials within regions are increasing, with supermarkets charging less for ice creams, for example, than gasoline stations do. Regional differences affect pricing, and products may not be the same across Europe. Loyalty programs and other methods may be used to obscure price differentials, but consumers can obtain information from sources such as the Internet. Companies may seek to raise prices where they are lower. The number of suppliers may also drop as companies seek the best suppliers in Europe.
