Female and male earnings differentials in retailing

Article Abstract:

The earnings of male employees in the retail industry are significantly higher than those of female workers. The pay differentials are attributed to gender discrimination and the categorization of jobs as either masculine or feminine. Retail industry 1992 earnings statistics indicate that female sales assistants and checkout operators receive only 79.7% of the earnings of their male counterparts.

Retailing in Canada and the United States: historical comparisons

Article Abstract:

The retail environments of the US and Canada are very dissimilar despite the highly parallel histories and cultures of the two countries. The differences are attributed to dissimilarities in both population and cultural philosophies. Although the retail environments of both countries have been converging, it would be unrealistic to expect the differences to disappear.

The internationalisation of retailing in the Czech and Slovak Republics

Article Abstract:

The Czech and Slovak Republics are embarking on a reconcentration effort to boost their retail sectors. Foreign retailers will play a major role in the initiative. Large-scale outlets in the region are expected to increase, while the standard of quality of specialized shops is expected to improve significantly.
