Fighting fires

Article Abstract:

The conflict in Kosovo, Yugoslavia, is intensifying, and the Kosovo Liberations Army (KLA) and Serb forces in the region do not appear interested in mediation by western countries. There is uncertainty at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (Nato) as to whether the aim of any intervention is to secure a withdrawal of Serbian troops, or simply achieve a ceasfire. The US has started talks with the KLA, and diplomats in Kosovo are seeking to set up a mission for observers in Kosovo.
