Danish toy firm Lego predicts losses of up to DKr200 million for 1998, after having seen pre-tax profits fall 76% in 1997 from 1996 to DKr171 million. The company has been negatively affected by the growing popularity of high-tech electronic games at the expense of more old-fashioned toys. Observers also feel that Lego has become too large. The company has already responded to this criticism by announcing that its workforce will be reduced by 1,000.
