First batch of Agusta A 129s in line for TM 197B gun turret

Article Abstract:

The Italian Army plans to equip 15 of its 60 Agusta A 129 Mangusta attack helicopters with the TM 197B traversable gun turret developed by Otobreda. The installation of the TM 197B on the 15 Mangustas is a contract option that is likely to be taken up. Otorbreda also expects a further contract to build TM 197Bs of the remaining 45 Mangustas. The TM 197B turret system includes a M197 three-barreled 20-mm gatling cannon and a lightweight version of the six-barreled M161A1 Vulcan used in a figter aircraft.

UK selects Meteor for BVRAAM

Article Abstract:

Matra BAe Dynamics has been selected the UK Ministry of Defense to supply it with a beyond visual range air-to-air missile. The ramjet-powered Meteor missile is expected to enter service by 2008. The missile deal is approximately 1 billion pounds sterling. In the interim, a classified number of AIM-120B/CAMRAAMs will be procured from Raytheon. Long term plans include the procurement of 2 Airbus A400M aircraft as the type's launch customer comprising a 3.5 billion pounds sterling program.

Thai air-defense system advances

Article Abstract:

The Royal Thai Air Force's contract with Northrop Grumman Electronic Sensors and Systems Sector for a new Royal Thai Air-Defense System is progressing smoothly with the signing of the final system acceptance for the second phase of the project. The scope of phase two will likely include additional three to five AN/FPS-130 3D air-defense surveillance radars, a communications network and a Sector Operations Cented in the northern part of Thailand.
