FirstGroup to buy bus unit of Ryder

Article Abstract:

FirstGroup PLC has reached an agreement to acquire Ryder Transportation Services Inc. for a cash payment of $940 million (903.8 million euros). Ryder is the second-largest operator of school buses in the US. The acquisition represents FirstGroup's first move into the rapidly-expanding and highly-fragmented bus market in the US. FirstGroup is the largest bus operator in Britain.

FirstGroup agrees to acquire Laidlaw

Article Abstract:

FirstGroup PLC of the United Kingdom is to purchase Laidlaw International Inc. of the United States for $2.8 billion. Share price bid offer is $35.25 per share at an 11 percent premium. Laidlaw International Inc. owns Greyhound bus service and the deal could bear antitrust scrutiny as it will corner approximately half of the North American school bus service market.
