Flagship unit hurts profit at Berkshire

Berkshire Hathaway Inc. said its net income for the 1999 second-quarter dropped to $572 million due to profit pressures at its flagship insurance group. In the same period in 1998, Berkshire posted $1.18 billion in net income.

Tokio Marine's net rises 22%, aided by cost reductions

Tokio Marine and Fire Insurance Co. posted an increase of 22% in its group net profits for the year ending March 31, 2001. The company posted 41.82 billion yen (401.7 million euros) in group net profits for the year.

Berkshire's net strengthened 21% in latest quarter
