Vietnam's ambivalence to tourism leaves hotel rooms in the dust

Article Abstract:

The Vietnamese government's reluctance to promote and support the hotel industry is posing a setback to its tourism industry. The government claims that a boost in tourism will threaten its environmental, social and political stability. Hotel and resort owners are lobbying for improved infrastructures, lower airfares and less visa restrictions to attract more tourists and meet the government's goal of 1.9 million tourists for 1997.
