Fluor's "new growth" businesses

Article Abstract:

Aliso Viejo, CA-based Fluor Corp has diversified into business-asset and operation management services from its core engineering and construction businesses with the establishment of Fluor Global Services (FGS). The move appears to be promising as the FGS unit's revenues increased from $2.6 billion to $2.9 billion from 1998 to 1999 while total company revenues decreased by roughly $1 billion during the same period. While Fluor has closed 15 of 65 offices worldwide, it is not withdrawing its global operations. The company is merely leveraging its finite resources to survive and prosper in the 21st century.

Steady as she goes

Article Abstract:

Trade in western Europe continues to prosper despite the problems presented by the weaker euro and higher fuel costs. The positive news from the region include the new tax-reform laws passed by the German government and the fall of unemployment rates to levels lower than in any recovery since the 1960s. Trade prospects in the countries of France, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands are also analyzed.
