For car makers in Japan, time is of the essence

Article Abstract:

The US has threatened to impose $5.9 billion in new tariffs on Japanese luxury car exports which arrived after May 20, 1995 if an agreement fails to materialize on Jun. 28, 1995. Analysts believe that the trade sanctions will not adversely affect the profits of Japan's top five carmakers in the short-term. However, they warned that the sanctions could eventually hurt Japanese dealerships in the US, particularly those which specialize on cars such as the Lexus and the Infiniti.
