For richer, for poorer

Article Abstract:

The Supreme Court of New Jersey has to decide on additional funding for education, following a suit by the Education Law Center (ELC). The ELC argues that a previous ruling requiring study of the problems of poorer students and action to meet their needs has not been complied with. The state has sought to standardize curricula as a way of tackling inequality. Testing is a way of identifying regional differences in scholastic achievements, and parents favor equality in this area, yet political problems can arise from testing and standardized curricula.
