Ford's U.K. plants cited by chairman for productivity lag

Article Abstract:

Ford Motor Co. has its chief executive and director, Alex Trotman, citing before the Confederation of British Industry conference that the company's continental-Europe and US manufacturing facilities surpass the productivity levels of its 21 manufacturing facilities in the United Kingdom. Trotman also noted that the productivity levels of Ford Motor's manufacturing facilities in the United Kingdom are below that of its facilities in other countries in Europe. Ford Motor's British production facilities are also behind by at least 20% in terms of productivity levels compared to the firm's best US manufacturing facilities.

Britain tops U.S. at World Bank

The World Bank's International Development Association received pledges totaling $41.6 bil from 45 nations for grants and low interest loans to 80 developing nations, representing a 30% increase. The United Kingdom raised its contribution by 49% to $4.2 bil, while the United States increased its contribution 30% to $3.7 bil.

London, by far, remains home to world's costliest office space
