Foreign car makers find share of success in Japan

Article Abstract:

Several foreign automobile manufacturers, particularly those from Europe and the US, have become successful in the Japanese market. Import sales rose 41% to 111,744 vehicles in the first four months of 1995 compared to the same period in 1994, contradicting allegations mainly brought up by US car makers that Japan intentionally makes the market harder for foreign automobiles. Although imports shared only 4.5% of the Japanese passenger market in early 1995, the figure is still significant considering that Japan has a very competitive market.

Brave investors seek a Mazda joyride as analysts caution against tailspin

Article Abstract:

Investors are being warned to think twice before deciding to acquire a stake in Mazda Motor Corp. The automobile manufacturer's stock slumped to 298 yen in Jun. 1995, although it has been able to climb to 339 yen in late Jul. 1995. Potential Mazda investors are banking on the trend wherein stocks hit hard by a poor economy rebound faster than other markets during a turnaround. However, Mazda's prospects for a turnaround are uncertain and it has not been able to pay a dividend since 1993.
