U.S. publishers use 'outserts' to cater to advertisers

Article Abstract:

With the bulk of 44 pages, DaimlerChrysler's Sebring line of cars is the sole advertiser in the free magazine with the title, "A Gift for Me." The much small inserts have been more common. The Sebring magazine will go to subscribers of several of Hearst Corp.'s magazines. The October issue of Tatler will have an 80-page outsert sponsored by Harrods. Several other publishers and advertisers are trying out the marketing technique.

Pearson books to go online in U.S

Educational publisher Pearson PLC launches online versions of its most popular college textbooks in the United States, offering them at half the price of the print versions. The company is targeting students who hesitate to purchase textbooks because of the high prices, and those who buy lower cost used books.

Foreign edition: a newspaper war in Poland tests Europe's barriers

Article Abstract:

Nationalist sentiment has proven to be a formidable obstacle to the success of foreign business enterprises in the individual countries of the European Union. Nevertheless, German publishing giant Axel Springer Verlag AG has recently expanded its operations to Russia and Hungary. In Poland, its daily newspaper Fakt has carved out a place in the market despite stiff competition from such native publications as the Gazeta Wyborcza.
