France's float of gas utility is a test case

Gaz de France, the French gas utility is to be partially privatized by the French government, offering an initial public offering of approximately $5.8 billion, reducing the French government's holding to around 80 percent from full ownership. Gaz de France has a total stock market value of 21 billion Euro to 24 billion Euro.

Suez shares fall on debt fears

Suez S.A. saw its share value drop 14% to a record low due to investors' worries about the company's huge debt. Suez has debts of 26 billion euros, which it hopes to reduce by way of asset sales.
