Free-form planning

Article Abstract:

A change in the use of UK planning restrictions is being called for after a study revealed a tendency to reduce competitiveness by limiting the use of land for certain types of buildings. An increased economic growth rate of up to 1.5% could be gained by the UK economy if planning regulations were relaxed, according to a study carried out by McKinsey Global Institute. The report concludes limits are being placed on the competitiveness of business, which will have an effect on the country's economy.

Changes to PPG1

Article Abstract:

In Planning Policy Guidance Note 1 consultation draft document has been published just four years after the original publication. Design occupies a very important part of the paper but it may be difficult for architects to practice the theory of the document. There are two interpretations on the design theory, one that planning permission will be granted wholly because of the design, while critics will see it as further interference in the business of architects and designers.
