Article Abstract:

Riots by the poor in immigrant suburbs Paris, France, were being handled by the Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy who referred to the rioters as "thugs" and "scum", offending France's political class. Mr.Sarkozy has had to cede his handling of the crisis to Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin and Mr. Chirac, Mr. Sarkozy was being considered for the role of Prime Minister. The riots were sparked when two boys mistakenly thought they were being persued by police, hid in a power substation and were inadvertently electrocuted.

French labor model fuels riots

Article Abstract:

The riots of Paris, France that have spread to smaller towns and cities are an illustration of an overly rigid labor market and pervasive discrimination against male Muslim youth. Labor laws protect job-holders but have created high unemployment of approximately ten percent. Job creation is slow so those with few credentials remain underemployed, particularly those of North African descent.
