GEC to acquire Tracor

Article Abstract:

GEC-Marconi is slated to make a cash tender offer for Tracor Inc. for $40 per share in an agreement valued at $1.4 billion. Tracor is planned to be merged with GEC-Marconi's North American Group to create a combined firm with 17,000 employees and revenues of $2.3 billion in 1997. GEC managing director Lord Simpson said the company is moved into rapidly growing defense-related data technology markets with the acquisition, in line with its strategy of building a significant business in the US. The agreement, which has obtained the approval of Tracor and GEC boards of directors, is subject to the approval of US regulators and is expected to be completed in June 1998.

Thomson take-over - the rotary effect

Article Abstract:

France-based Thompson-CSF is acquiring Racal, the second largest defense electronics company in the UK. Racal shareholders are expected to approve the deal, which is worth 1.3 billion pounds sterling, by summer of 2000. Despite the fact that Thomson-CSF is majority-owned by the French government, it seems that the deal has been given a go signal by the UK Ministry of Defense. The acquisition is speculated to have a great impact on the military helicopter industry.
