GERMANY: MANAGEMENT PROBLEMS IN TALKLINE

Article Abstract:

The director of Talkline, Tele Danmark's German subsidiary, has been dismissed owing to disagreement about the future strategy. According to a confidential report, made by Arthur Andersen, there are great discrepancies between the director and Tele Danmark as regards both medium-term and long-term strategies. The report concludes that this threatens Talkline's position on the market, as the company is loosing market share and doesn't make necessary investments. By the end of 1998, Talkline had 800,000 clients in mobile telephony and 170,000 clients in fixed telephony in Germany.

Article Abstract:

The major German media group Bertelsmann is interested in expanding in Scandinavia, says Gerd Schulte-Hillen, head of the groups' newpaper and magazine division. He says Bertelsmann aims at participating in the restructuring process which is taking place in the Scandinavian newspaper sector, but rejects that the media group was planning to take over the Swedish daily Svenska Dagbladet.
