GM Europe to slash costs in blow to German workers

Article Abstract:

In an effort to recover from five straight years of losses, General Motors Europe is aiming to cut costs by $619.8 million by 2006. Though the auto maker will strive to reach its financial objectives without laying off workers, the company is looking at the possible elimination of as many as 12,000 jobs. Labor leaders suspect that the majority of layoffs will be aimed at the company's German operations.
