GM plans Daewoo agenda

Article Abstract:

General Motors Corp. and Fiat SpA are preparing to submit a bid for acquisition of South Korea's Daewoo Motor Co. A former unit of the bankrupt Daewoo Group, Daewoo Motor Co. reported its first operating profit in two years at $5.13 million in April. Members of Daewoo Motor's labor union are planning to protest the foreign takeover at General Motor's Seoul office.

Banks agree to Kookmin-Housing and Commercial merger

The merger of South Korean banks Kookmin Bank and Housing and Commercial Bank will result in the country's biggest financial institution, serving almost half of South Korea's population. The success of the merger depends on whether foreign investors are pleased with the selection of the president of the new company.
