JUST WHEN YOU THOUGHT IT WAS SOLUBLE ... GUJARAT AMBUJA CEMENTS

Article Abstract:

Gujarat Ambuja Cements (GAC) has constantly expanded its capacity, from 7 lakh tonnes in the 1980s to 5 million tonnes now. Its despatch increased by about 35 percent to 4.88 million tonnes in 1997-98. Its sales turnover increased by 34 percent between July-December 1997 but its net profit grew by only 15 percent. The commissioning of its captive power plant is likely to bring down costs and improve its bottomline in the second half of the year. GAC has acquired the ailing Modi Cement for Rs165 crore and may soon acquire another cement unit. (khr)
