Bear Stearns CEO moves up to post of chairman

Bear Stearns and Cos. has promoted Chief Executive Officer (CEO) James E. Cayne to the position of company chairman. Cayne is replacing the outgoing Alan "Ace" Greenberg, who will become Bear Stearns' "elder statesman."

Wall Street has big-small split in the IPO game

The setting of prices for initial public offerings has been more accurate by the smaller investment banks than the larger investment banks as of the past five months. Privately, big investment bank representatives have said major institutional investors are more difficult to sell than smaller initial public offerings and that five months is too short a time to set as a trend.

Gains in underwriting help DLJ beat earnings forecast in quarter

Article Abstract:

Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette Inc. (DLJ) reported underwriting revenue gains for the quarter ending in March 1999. DLJ posted $165.7 million (162.9 million euros) in net income for the period. The revenue gains propelled the firm's unexpectedly high earnings. DLJ's quarterly net income was also a record result. During the same period in 1998, DLJ posted $142.3 million in net income.
