Gas prices will rise

Transgas (Prague, Czech Republic), monopoly gas supplier and transporter, expects a gross profit of nearly CEK 2 bil in 2000 compared to CEK 8.8 bil in 1999. The profit drop is caused by the high prices of oil and gas. Transgas's loss from high oil prices should be CEK 7 bil for all 2000, having reached CEK 2.3 bil for 1H 2000. The firm covers its losses from profits from gas transit through the Czech territory. Transgas generates a turnover of CEK 38 bil per year. Its stock is CEK 24 bil. The distribution of gas in the Czech Republic is ensured by eight gas companies. Their stock is CEK 8.6 bil. The firms generate a turnover of CEK 38 bil per year. Their profits decreased by 10.7% for 1-9/2000 compared to the same period in 1999. The prices of gas for households should increase by 25-37% from 01 Jan 2001.
