Real estate could become one of the best investments in Japan in 1997. Average values of commercial and residential properties have been gradually improving, and returns on investments have been attractive. Government aid has been a boost to the real estate market.

Shares in Britain's Royal Insurance Company have risen dramatically since the sterling was pulled out of the European exchange rate mechanism. The rally began just when investors were predicting that the company was on the brink of collapse.
