Going, going...gone

Article Abstract:

Cases of syphilis are dropping in the US. The disease is affected by epidemic cycles, but each cycle has shown a drop in cases over the long term. There is still cause for concern, especially since syphilis can make people more vulnerable to HIV infection, and HIV infection helps spread syphilis. Poor primary health care appears to favor syphilis, and any program to eliminate the disease should involve improvements in public health care. Technical issues are less of a problem than increasing confidence in health professionals among poorer African Americans.

Out of sorts

Article Abstract:

There are problems with private health care provision such as lack of provision for the poor. Older people face increased insurance premiums at a time when their income is falling. The state provides most old age health insurance in richer countries. Demand for health care is increasing, and rationing is necessary. Long-term nursing care has tended to be available only for poorer people in richer countries, and there are uncertainties over costs which mean that insurance is expensive.
