Goldman may top Gates consortium in bid for Cliveden

Goldman Sachs and Co., a US-based investment banking company, is believed to have plans to launch a bid for Cliveden PLC, the UK-based luxury hotel group that received a takeover bid from Destination Europe USA, a consortium of US investors that include Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates. Sources familiar to the transaction noted that Goldman Sachs already approached Cliveden through its Whitehall real estate investment arm. It is also rumored that Goldman Sachs is likely to partner with a US hotel group in making its offer for the hotel group.

Baan agrees to acquire CAPS Logistics

Article Abstract:

Baan NV, a Danish software firm, is preparing to purchase Atlanta, GA-based CAPS Logistics Inc. in order to establish a position in the new software market sectors. The proposed all-stock transaction, where the financial terms have not been revealed, indicates the growing trend among dominant enterprise software firms of shifting towards faster-growing software products. Baan stated that the purchase allows the company to offer a wider array of products that envelope the entire aspects of the firm's operations.
