Reed buys ChoicePoint, opts to sell magazines

Looking to move away from traditional publishing, media conglomerate Reed Elsevier announces the purchase of personal data provider ChoicePoint Inc. for $3.5 billion and the assumption of $600 million in debt. Reed Elsevier also plans the sale of its trade-magazine division.

Time Warner to sell book group for $537.5 million
