Greens grow up

Article Abstract:

European Greens have moved from being a pressure group to becoming involved in politics by joining governments. They were initially involved in two governments, and are supporting or involved in five governments in 1999, Germany, France, Sweden, Finland and Italy. They are also occupying posts away from their more conventional preoccupations, such as the foreign ministry in Germany. They are less important in southern and eastern Europe than in northern Europe, and relatively wealthy areas.
