Article Abstract:

The ties between the former Soviet bloc nations and the EC have grown rapidly since 1989, especially in the cases of the Central European republics of Czechoslovakia, Hungary, and Poland. These three nations form the Partners in Transition (PIT), which trades with EC nations pursuant to the 'Europe agreements.'

Article Abstract:

Several criticisms brought against an economic union in Europe are refuted. A single currency would not discourage trade between European countries, and it would not cause economic stagnation in poorer countries. The European central bank can provide price stability with the support of member countries.

Battling cities: Europe's central bank

The European Community is preparing to decide where the European Monetary Institute, which will evolve into the European Central Bank, will be located. It appears that Germany, Holland, and Luxembourg are the main contenders for the honor.
