Article Abstract:

TIS is expected to sell its loss-making subsidiaries Technisport (based in France) and Tecnox (Portugal) as part of a restructuring programme. The Belgian textile company has managed to cut to BFr 3.5mn the loss of its Czech activity (Technolen WF), from BFr 30mn in 1997. TIS, which is to sell 95.7% of its capital to its bigger colleague Sioen Industries at a price of FFr 18,124 per share, posted a turnover of BFr 477mn in the first six months of 1998, up from BFr 380mn in the same year-earlier period. The net profit was slightly up to BFr 26.2mn from BFr 25.5mn.

Article Abstract:

On 21 August 1998, G n rale de Banque (G-Banque) announced that the Chinese representation offices of Beijing and Shangai would keep their current status. They do not need to shift status now that another office in Canton has just changed status to become a subsidiary. The move allows it to offer actual banking services to the Belgian companies in the Canton area, but also to local companies. Services will mainly consist in short-term credits, the Belgian retail banking network adds.
