Happy hunting in the Northwest

Article Abstract:

Mergers and acquisitions in noth west England underwent a boom in 1994. Transport, food manufacturing and leisure showed strong activity but there was also activity in construction, industrial manufacturing and engineering. The north west of England accounts for 12% of UK mergers and acquisitions, and deals are becoming larger. Media, health care and retail sectors showed activity in 1994. Disclosed deals totalled 112 in 4th qtr 1994, and early 1995 saw strong activity, though this could change with higher interest rates and other latent problems.

Prospects for West Midlands-based companies

Article Abstract:

Companies in the West Midlands region of England should benefit from a move toward manufacturing industry and technology. There is general recognition that industry should not be neglected and that the exports this sector achieves are important for the economy as a whole. Real estate has previoulsy provided a better return for investors, but this is changing. There is a need for investment in production in order for the West Midlands to benefit from this change.
