Telecommunications equipment maker Huawei Technologies Co. of China is looking to divest its power supply systems division to Emerson Electric Co. of the United States. It is unsure whether the Chinese government will agree to the sale because Huawei has a 30 percent share of the strategic Chinese telecommunications market. Huawei is trying to streamline its operations in order to become more competitive.

Headache for Goldman Sachs? Gitic failure may hurt bank's stake in insurer

Article Abstract:

The bankruptcy of Hong Kong-based Guangdong International Trust and Investment Corp (Gitic) has alarmed New York-based Goldman Sachs and Co. The New York investment firm possesses shares amounting to $50 million in a Shenzhen insurance firm managed by Gitic. Moreover, Gitic also administers a trust created for the share acquired by Goldman at the Ping An Insurance Co. Goldman officials are still worried despite assurances from the government that its interests at Gitic will be protected due to the vagueness and volatility of the legal system in China.
