Hip hop: Acer teams up with American designer to woo buyers

Article Abstract:

US design studio frogdesign created a look for Acer America's Aspire computer that vaulted it into the upper echelons of US computer makers in late 1995. Widely praised, the design favors gray and green colors rather than beige, a flowing line for the computer case, and random vent patterns, though still more radical redesigns were apparently rejected. Acer became the third most popular consumer brand of computers almost overnight, transforming then bland image of Acer as a Taiwan-based maker of clone computers.

Staying away

Article Abstract:

The Indian government recognizes that Indian-Americans working in California's Silicon Valley could play a key role in boosting high-tech investment in India. However, it has so far failed to attract a positive response from these people, many of whom are leading information technology entrepreneurs. Few successful Indian-Americans are investing in India or making their expertise available there, and some have even gone as far as to be openly critical of barriers to business development in India.
