Japan car makers elbow Koreans aside in Thailand

Article Abstract:

Japanese automobile manufacturers have responded to their South Korean counterparts' price reductions of cars in Thailand with a similar but much greater price drop that effectively grabbed market share from the latter. The Japanese counterattack in this price war was headed by Toyota Motor Corp. and Honda Motor Co. which left South Korean rivals Hyundai Motor Co. and Daewoo Motors Corp. far behind in subsequent sales performance.
