Hongkong designer fuses East and West

Article Abstract:

Alan Chan is a Hongkong-based graphics designer whose striking works have earned him over 300 awards and a reputation for being among the foremost practitioners of his art. His designs combine Western ideas of harmony with traditional Chinese symbols. Chan often uses these symbols to form metaphors that convey hidden meanings. Now 43 years old, Chan began as a designer for Western advertisers from whom he learned the value of marketing and the ability to look anew at Chinese culture.

Champion of widows of Hongkong soldiers

Article Abstract:

British World War II veteran Jack Edwards continues to wage his own battle by fighting for the rights of Chinese and Eurasian war widows and demanding an apology from Japan for its war atrocities. Edwards believe that much of his learning process took place in prison camp where he learned the importance of respect. With thousandsof his book being sold in Japan and the British government making moves for thewidows, all his efforts seem to have paid off.

Hongkong's trade negotiator: Donald Tsang

Article Abstract:

A personality profile of Hongkong's Director-General of Trade, Donald Tsang, is presented. Highlights of his line of work are discussed by citing specific instances wherein he had to negotiate with a foreign government official. He also evaluates the flexibility of Hongkong as he also emphasized certain issues wherein compromise will not be considered. Atpresent, he is greatly disturbed by broadsides aimed at his country's trading partners.
