The population of tigers in the world is dwindling and the efforts to conserve this animal may be on the brink of failure. Leopard and tiger skin are highly priced commodities. Other parts of tiger too are said to have medicinal value in Chinese and Eastern medicines. Under these circumstances, certain measures that could help in breeding tigers in captivity and using them for commercial purposes seem advisable.

A daring and highly controversial effort to save the South China tiger is underway. Several cubs will be airlifted from their home range to Africa. This article documents the recent decline in tigers throughout all of Asia. Of the seven types discussed the Caspian tiger is believed to be extinct, two species have not been seen in decades.
