Howitzer handover: German Army gets first prduction PzH2000

Article Abstract:

Wegmann has delivered the first production PzH2000 155-mm 52-caliber self-propelled howitzer to the German Army. The service has by far asked for one block of 185 self-propelled howitzers worth around DM1.7 billion, or $930 million. In receiving the howitzers, the chief of the German Army staff, described the PzH2000's ability to freely move across the battlefield due to its long range and on-board navigation systems. However, a senior artillery professional observed that it would be impossible under the present set up to maximize the howitzers autonomous operations capability because of the very meager communications system on the PzH2000. As a result, howitzer platoons are compelled to stay near a command vehicle equipped with a more powerful radio system.

Mokopa looks to Tiger for exports

Article Abstract:

Eurocopter has begun demonstration trials of Kentron's Mokopa semi-active laser guided anti-tank missile as an alternative to the Long-Range TRIGAT missile for use with Tiger attack helicopters. The Mokopa has a maximum range of 10 km, which is twice the normal range of the LR Trigat. It uses a standard tandem HEAT warhead and has an RHA penetration capability higher than 1.5m. Kentron is studying the feasibility of using fragmentation and 'bunker buster' warheads with the Mokopa.
