IMF presses Argentina on debt plan

Article Abstract:

Rodrigo Rato, the new director the International Monetary Fund, has approved Argentina's call for a suspension of negotiations over the country's current financial program with the International Monetary Fund. Argentina has proposed the suspension of talks so that it can finalize a restructuring of public debt without the imposition of controls from the international aid organization. Despite the loosening, if only temporarily, of Argentina's ties to the IMF, activists took to the streets in protest during Mr. Rato's visit to Buenos Aires.
