INDIA MANAGED 5.8% GROWTH

Article Abstract:

The Economic Survey for 1998-99 has projected a gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 5.8 percent in 1998-99. The survey takes 1993-94 as the new base year and takes into account value addition by part of the unorganised sector. The survey has projected a nominal GDP of Rs1,600,000 crore at current prices for 1998-99. This is a 11.5 percent increase over the nominal GDP of Rs1,426,670 crore in 1997-98. (uh)(vr)

INDIA TO EMERGE AS LARGEST MILK PRODUCER THIS YEAR, SAYS FAO

Article Abstract:

The Food and Agriculture Organisation says that India is likely to emerge as the world's largest milk producer in 1998-99 with an output of 74 million tonnes. The country's milk production is expected to increase by 4.2 percent to 74 million tonnes in 1998- 99 from 71 million tonnes in 1997-98. (khr)
