The National Mineral Development Corporation, a public sector undertaking based at Hyderabad, operates two large mechanised iron ore mines at Bailadila in Madhya Pradesh and one mine at Donimalai in Karnataka. It also operates India's only working diamond mine at Panna in Madhya Pradesh. It has recently commissioned an ultra pure ferric oxide plant at Visakhapatnam. It registered a turnover of Rs841 crore and profit of Rs216.17 crore in 1997-98. It exported iron ore valued at Rs521 crore in 1997-98. (khr)

HB Stockholding (HBS) and HB Leasing and Finance (HBLF) have announced an open offer for the shares of Indo-Gulf Industries (IGI) at Rs15 each. HBS and HBLF plan to acquire 30 lakh shares equivalent to 31.16 percent stake in IGI. HBS and HBLF have acquired 11.57 percent stake from the market. IGI is engaged in the manufacture of explosives and accessories. Its scrip price touched Rs18 on the announcement of open offer. (rk)
