Iberdrola wins key asset in Energy East

Article Abstract:

Spanish utility Iberdrola has bought Energy East Corp. for $4.58 bil, significantly expanding its presence in the US. The deal has added approximately 3 mil gas and electric customers, and enables Iberdrola to obtain US tax credits for the production of renewable energy.

Berkshire Hathaway Inc.'s subsidiary MidAmerican Energy Holdings Co. is to acquire PacifiCorp from Scottish Power PLC. The American electric utilities deal is valued at $5.1 billion and the assumption of $4.3 billion in debt.
