I'm not all right, Jack

Article Abstract:

Some UK companies have introduced effective management/employee partnerships. However, there are still companies in which the traditional divisions between management and workers remain intact, even though it has been shown that eliminating these divisions improves employee satisfaction, motivation and performance. Just over half of workers are satisfied in their jobs, but 77% believe that they are not consulted enough about changes in the workplace.

Making up the numbers

Article Abstract:

Some 40% of UK companies have suffered a rise in employee absenteeism since 1996, according to a survey from Gee Publishing. However, fewer than a third actually calculate the cost of absenteeism. It is clear that companies should look in more detail at the effectiveness of their absence management strategies. Improving the working environment can help, as can ensuring that all employees feel that they have an important contribution to make.

Hiring a top gun

Article Abstract:

The selection of a competent and efficient project manager is an essential part of management decision making when embarking on a costly investment project. Small firms may find hiring a project manager is too expensive, and in-house employees are capable of undertaking the task. The more expensive projects must be organised by a qualified project manager to ensure correct execution of all processes.
