India may introduce REITs: interest is expected to be high because of robust growth; but Germany reveals risks

Article Abstract:

India's Securities and Exchange Board has announced plans to introduce real estate investment trusts as early as 2008, indicating potential deregulation of the nation's rapidly growing real estate market. However, recent launches of REITs in the UK and Germany have not fared well, due in part to turmoil in the credit market, underscoring the possible risks India's REITs may face.

Housing market in U.K. still slow as lending pales

Article Abstract:

The UK housing market remains slow; new mortgage lending volume reached a more-than-two-year low in November 2008. New lending was posted at approximately $8.5 bil, with 44,811 new mortgages approved. The current credit crisis fueled by soured subprime loans has influenced the housing market.
